50th homepageTravelling  to Stratford-upon-Avon

Please note, this is not the Stratford situated within London!

Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bridge Foot, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6YR

Information for overseas guests travelling by air.

planeThe nearest airport to Stratford-upon-Avon is Birmingham International (BHX) which is 30 to 40 minutes away by car. A taxi is the easiest way but also the most expensive, with a fare upwards of £50 for a single journey.

A good taxi/rail/taxi option from the airport is to take a short taxi ride to Solihull station. There is a lift at Solihull from the entrance to the platforms and an hourly service runs from here for the 30 minute journey to Stratford-upon-Avon. Do not get off at Stratford Parkway. The railway station in Stratford is about a twenty minute walk to the Crowne Plaza (formerly Holiday Inn) or a short taxi ride.

Another option is to take a bus to Stratford, via Coventry. A 900 bus from the airport bus terminal runs at fifteen minute intervals and costs about £5 to Coventry. From there an X15 or X16 will take you to Stratford and the drop off is a short walk to the Crowne Plaza (formerly Holiday Inn). The fare from Coventry to Stratford is about £7. Total journey time is about 2 hours.

Unless you want to explore Birmingham do not take a train into the city. The problem here is that you will arrive at Birmingham New Street and you will need to transfer to Birmingham Moor Street, which is a fifteen minute walk or a short taxi ride.
